Summer Arts Festival presents Joseph Haydn's 'Lord Nelson Mass'
(Music/Theatre/Dance)
Arguably Haydn's greatest single composition, Haydn wrote the Nelson Mass during a time of turmoil and war when Vienna itself was under threat of Napoleon. He originally named the mass Missa in augustiis (Mass for troubled times), but following Lord Nelson's defeat of Napoleon at the Battle of the Nile, the mass became the Lord Nelson Mass.
