Connexin 43 (Cx43) gap junctions facilitate the rapid and well-orchestrated propagation of action potentials necessary for each heartbeat to occur. Cx43 protein turns over rapidly and is subject to rapid and pathological remodeling during stressed conditions such as ischemia. In this seminar, Dr. Smyth will discuss his research, which has identified key regulatory steps in the Cx43 gap junction lifecycle.
