Calcium and Sudden Cardiac Death - From Genes to Teens to Finding Better Drugs
(VTC)
Bjorn C. Knollmann, PhD
Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology
Division of Clinical Pharmacology
Oates Institute for Experimental Therapeutics
Vanderbilt University School of Medicine
Nashville, Tennessee
This seminar will cover how abnormal calcium handling in the heart can generate irregular heartbeats (arrhythmia) leading to sudden cardiac death in children and young adults. Dr. Knollmann will describe how to use genetic mouse models to discover basic arrhythmia mechanisms, and how this new knowledge can be applied to finding better drug therapies for patients.
This lecture is part of the Timothy A. Johnson Medical Scholar Lecture Series and takes place in Room M106. More information...
