  Rosa Grena Kliass Lecture
(Academic)

Brazilian landscape architect Rosa Grena Kliass will discuss "Scale and Significance: Main Issues for Landscape Architecture." Kliass earned an architecture degree from the University of Sao Paolo in 1955 and has been dedicated to the professional fields of landscape architecture and urban design since 1960. In 1970, she established her practice of landscape planning and received a master's degree in 1989. She spearheaded the Sao Paolo parks department and co-founded the Brazilian Association of Landscape Architects (ABAP) in 1976, serving as its president in 1980, 1983, 1989, 1991, and 2000. Kliass designed landscape plans for the city of Curitiba, Brazil's early rooftop terraces, and large-scale environmental preservation projects throughout the country.

In 1996-97 she worked on landscape design for the Fleury Laboaratory in Sao Paulo. Her design included a garden that would insulate the building from the noise of the nearby airport and act as an employee recreational area.

A reception sponsored by the landscape architecture program will follow Kliass's lecture in 121 Burruss Hall.
