Ella Baker was an NAACP organizer who was credited with mentoring students who formed the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee. This event will consist of a panel of four veterans discussing their experiences with the Civil Rights movement and relating it to student grassroots efforts today. There will the opportunity for one-on-one interaction and discussion. Who was Ella Baker? Ella Baker (1903-1986) was an NAACP organizer who is credited with mentoring students who formed the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) in 1960. A reception will take place immediately following the presentation in the Jamestown Room, Squires Student Center.
