Montgomery County Memory Project: digitization of family heirlooms
(Special Event)
New River Valley residents are invited to bring up to three (3) items (objects, photographs, or documents) that speak to the history of Montgomery County and its people, including family heirlooms.
Trained Virginia Tech Libraries archivists and staff will photograph or scan visitors' mementos and family items at no charge. Attendees will receive a free digital copy of the photos and scans to take home. Attendees can optionally choose to share the resulting images and the stories behind them on a digital exhibit website dedicated to the project. Experts will be available to help attendees learn about how to best store, care for, and preserve their materials.
Items brought in should belong to the attendee, and assistance will not be available to transport large items. No weapons (including antique firearms, knives, and swords) will be allowed.
