MI + SPIA Spring 2016 Speaker Series: Sandra Levitsky -- Law Vs Policy: Charting A Path Toward Socioeconomic Rights
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)
Sandra Levitsky, assistant professor, University of Michigan, will present "Law Vs. Policy: Charting A Path Toward Socioeconomic Rights."
In her talk, Levitsky will discuss how moving the systematic study of issues such as health, poverty, education, food, and work out of the socio-legal community to the new field of public policy in the early 1970s has created an important lacuna in research on social and economic inequality. While sociological scholars have amassed considerable research on civil and political rights, they have given very little attention to socioeconomic rights and law's role in reproducing economic inequality.
Levitsky's talk considers both what has been lost and what might be gained from bridging the two fields.
Doors open at 6 p.m.
Lecture begins at 6:30 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served.
The 2016 Spring Speaker Series is a joint effort of the Metropolitan Institute (MI) and the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA).
