"Producing Zombie Cinema: A Sociological Perspective"
(Special Event)

Please join Dr. Todd Platts for his talk, "Producing Zombie Cinema: A Sociological Perspective".

This presentation discusses the production-of-culture perspective as viable sociological approach to the study of zombie cinema. At its core, the production-of-culture perspective highlights how the process of production impacts the nature and content cultural products. Once the production-of-culture perspective is detailed, its utility will be demonstrated through a focus on several key historical junctures of zombie cinema - the 1930s and 1940s, the lack of influence of Dawn of the Dead (1978) on American film market, and the genre's twenty-first-century popularity. The talk will conclude acknowledging several limitations of the production-of-culture perspective.
