An Evening with Jose Antonio Vargas: Elevating the Conversation around Immigration and Citizenship in America
(Diversity)
Vargas changed the national narrative around immigration when he told his powerful personal story as an undocumented LGBT immigrant. He subsequently wrote and directed the movie Documented and founded Define American, a non-profit that asks the question "What makes a person American?" Today he speaks frequently about the meaning of citizenship and for inclusion and progress on these issues. The event will feature a lecture and Q&A period with Mr. Vargas.
The Minnis E. Ridenour Faculty Fellowship works to promote interdisciplinary discussion of social phenomena among the university's faculty and students.
Program supported in part by: Virginia Tech Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, Office of the Provost's Women and Minority Artists and Lecture Series, The Hispanic and Latino Faculty Staff Caucus, Virginia Tech Office of the President, Virginia Tech Division of Student Affairs, College of Architecture and Urban Studies, and the Tech DREAMers
