Weaver to Scholar: Appalachian and Irish Textile Arts

Kathleen Curtis Wilson listened to her grandmother's stories about living abroad. As a handweaver, she moved to SW Virginia in 1982 to establish Old Abingdon Weavers, Inc. a production-weaving mill. Fascinated with the textile traditions in the region, Wilson began an lengthy research project in 1991, funded in part by VFH. The book, "Textile Art from Southern Appalachia," was published in conjunction with and int'l exhibition of the same name.
As a non-resident Fellow at he Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, Wilson is currently completing "An Enslaved Woman and her Dressmaker Daughter" for Ohio Univ Press.
She'll share her interesting years of research in Appalachia and abroad with stories & slides. More information...
