Musica Viva Presents: An American Premiere
(Music/Theatre/Dance)
This is a very special concert with much variety and beloved great works. The program starts with Schubert's most famous Fantasy for piano four hands, performed by our wonderful guests from Berlin,Germany. Sivan Silver and Gil Garburg are one of the most successful piano duos today, performing and touring all over the world. Second, Dvorak's famous Piano Quintet in A Major, with Sivan Silver at the piano, plus Giora Schmidt, a great violinist who regularly performs as a soloist with orchestras; Katherine Murdock, violist, who appears with Musica Viva for the first time, is a teacher at the University of Maryland, and much in demand as a chamber musician on many series and festivals; They will be joined by Benjamin Wyatt, cello and David Ehrlich, violin.
The most exciting work on the program is the Mendelssohn Octet, one of the most popular works in the chamber music literature. Still, the special thing about tonight's performance is that it is an arrangement for a string quartet plus piano four hands. The arrangement was done by the composer. Most of us have not even heard of this version, and it should be an American Premiere.
