The Black Lives in the New South Speaker Series

Please join Dr. Vanesa Ribas, University of California-San Diego as she presents, "Slaughterhouse Lives: Black and Latin@ Workers in the Southern Meat Industry".
Dr. Ribas;s talk will draw upon her dissertation research, now published as "On the Line: Slaughterhouse Lives and the Making of the New South," which questions conventional theories of intergroup competition and conflict. She conducted ethnographic research while employed as a regular production worker in a North Carolina meatpacking plant for sixteen months between 2009 and 2010. She examines the character of social relations between Latina/o migrants and their chief counterparts in the workplace - African Americans.
