25 Years of German Unity: "25 Years of (Re)Unification - One Germany for Everyone?"
(Academic)
This lecture is the first in a series of events celebrating the 25th anniversary of German Unification that are being held October 13-30. Dr. Corinna Kahnke, Duke University, will trace the history of the two Germanies and the events that ultimately lead to the Fall of the Wall in 1989 and Unification in 1990. Then she will shed an investigative light on the Berlin Republic of today, exploring the ways in which unification has affected minorities and marginalized groups and where the country finds itself situated 25 years after making history in such a remarkable way. Sponsors of these events are: VT German Program, German Embassy, Washington, D.C., Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Department of History, Dean's Advisory Committee on International Initiatives, and University Libraries.
