EVALUATION ROUNDTABLE
(Administration)
Topic: Evaluative Thinking: An Everyday Activity?
Presenter: Tom Archibald, Assistant Professor, Department of Agricultural Leadership and Community Education
What does it mean to think evaluatively? How can we encourage others to think evaluatively? The term "evaluative thinking" has become increasingly popular in recent years, risking becoming an empty buzzword. Yet because the concept is so fundamentally important--to understanding the practice of professional evaluators and to hold us as the ultimate goal of evaluation capacity building efforts--it behooves us to think more about evaluative thinking. In this session, Tom Archibald will draw from a recently published article on evaluative thinking (Buckley, Archibald, Hargraves, & Trochim, 2015) to lead activities and discussion to help move us towards a more nuanced and refined understanding of evaluative thinking.
