The Use and Abuse of Joan of Arc: Memory and Creation of the Middle Ages
(Arts)

Prof. Matthew Gabriele, associate professor of Medieval Studies in the Dept. of Religion & Culture, will help contextualize the Orlando Consort's performance that evening.

We all "know" something about the Middle Ages and perhaps even about Joan of Arc. But where does that "knowledge" come from? This brief talk will offer some thoughts on the creation of Dreyer's "Le Passion de Jeanne d'Arc," as well as the ways generally that the Middle Ages have been used in the modern world.
