Beards in History 1: Charlemagne
(Academic)
Please join the Dept. of Religion & Culture for their Fall 2015 lecture series, on the theme of "Beards in History." What does facial hair mean? What can we tell about the past by looking at how people are presented? These informal presentations will open up lots of room for discussion.
Prof. Matthew Gabriele (Medieval Studies) will talk about the great king Charlemagne and how representations of him (and his facial hair!) changed over time, demonstrating a changing attitude towards his memory and towards the Middle Ages more generally.
All are welcome. More information...
