"Prisoner of Her Past" - Book Reading, Discussion, and Reception
(Academic)
In his memoir, "Prisoner of Her Past," writer Howard Reich tells the story of his upbringing in a household of Holocaust survivors and of how his mother, Sonia Reich, finally succumbed to posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Reich travels to Poland and the Ukraine in the attempt to reconstruct how his mother survived the Holocaust as an orphan on the run. Copies of the book will be available from the author, who is also the Chicago Tribune music critic. The event is co-sponsored by the departments of Foreign Languages & Literatures, Communication, English, History, Political Science, Psychology, Religion & Culture, and Sociology; the School of Performing Arts; the Center for Peace Studies & Violence Prevention; the Institute for Society, Culture & Environment; and the VT German Culture Club.
