Glossolalia: The Literary Festival at Virginia Tech
(Arts)
Glossolalia is happening on March 21 & 22 in Torg 3100 at 7 pm each night.
Jennifer L. Knox will read on the 21st. Courtney Maum will read on the 22nd. Undergrads and MFA students will join them in reading their own work. There will be free food and free music and free fun.
Knox is a poet. Poet Noelle Kocot said this about her writing: "Jennifer L. Knox's poems are very funny. That goes without saying. But they are also poignant, smart and compassionate. I love this poetry, and I feel very close to it. Knox is the kind of author one wants to be friends with, in Holden Caulfield's sense, after reading the work. As far as I'm concerned, there is no higher compliment for a writer."
Maum is a humorist/short story writer/novelist. Author Jim Shepard this about her debut novel, which will be published this summer: "Antic, sexy, satirically deft, and of course funny, this novel is also, on both the personal and political levels, smart about the bottomlessness of our capacities for self-sabotage, and moving about the fierceness of our yearning to make good." Maum is also the author of Celebrity Book Reviews at Electric Literature and blogs for the highly-regarded literary journal Tin House. She is often hilarious and always smart.
