Dreamers and Storytellers: Pedagogy of Digital Storytelling (Pedagogy in Practice Workshop Series)
(Academic)
This workshop makes a case for incorporating dreams and storytelling into our teaching and encouraging students to write and tell their stories. Our students come to college with their dreams and we can nurture those dreams if we, as instructors, understand and develop a relationship with students as "dreamers and storytellers." Sharing stories with students help them to developing a sense of belonging, which influences a student's academic motivation and achievement. Digital storytelling is a practice of combining storytelling with digital contents, such as images, sound, and video. This workshop will consist of part presentation on Digital Storytelling, directed at college instructors, and part discussion on how we can use digital storytelling and narrative writing in our teaching.
