The Order of the Gavel is a Virginia Tech leadership honor society, composed of leaders of major student organizations. The order was founded as an undergraduate honor society but as time passed and the influence of graduate student organizations grew, there was a groundswell of support to include graduate organizations that were added in the mid-1990s. Today, there are 28 undergraduate and graduate student members from governance, media, leadership, the corps, and programming organizations. Normally, the order meets on the first Wednesday of each month.
