Crooked Road Festival: The Rickie Simpkins Quartet
(Arts)
For generations, our Appalachian communities have produced an abundance of extraordinary traditional musicians. They are the keepers of an historic musical legacy from colonial times and have created and passed on old-time, bluegrass, and mountain gospel sounds that have influenced the development of American music. We are pleased to collaborate with the Crooked Road: Virginia's Heritage Music Trail on a special celebration of the music, dance, and craftsmanship of our region. Saturday night features The Rickie Simpkins Quartet with Rickie Simpkins (fiddle), Avril Smith (guitar/mandolin/vocals), John Seebach (guitar/mandolin/vocals), and Stefan Custodi (bass), plus other special guest musicians. Workshops and demonstrations on dance, music, guitar making, and more will accompany these concerts, including special activities during the day on Saturday, March 22, and around the New River Valley.
