  Workshop and Lecture Celebrate Practitioner-Scholar-Teachers  
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)

Shelli Fowler, Virginia Tech associate professor and executive director, New Pedagogies in Learning Technologies, will conduct a teaching workshop on "Increasing Student Engagement via Active Learning: What's 'Disruptive Wonder' and Curiosity Got To Do With It?" The workshop, sponsored by the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, will begin at 5 p.m.

The workshop will be followed at 6:30 p.m. by a lecture by Paul Pillar, visiting professor and director, Security Studies Program, Georgetown University. Pillar will present "Can We Live With A Nuclear Iran?" Pillar retired in 2005 from a 28-year-long career in the U.S. intelligence community; his last position was National Intelligence Officer for the Near East and South Asia. Earlier he served in a variety of analytic and managerial postions, including a position at the CIA as chief of analytic units (covering portions of the Near East, the Persian Gulf, and South Asia). Pillar earned an M.A. and Ph.D. in Politics from Princeton University.

This event is sponsored by the Center for Public Administration and Policy (CPAP); Government and International Affairs (GIA); and Urban Affairs and Planning
(UAP).

Virginia Tech faculty, staff, administrators, and students are invited to attend one or both presentations.
