  Derek Hyra Moderates Discussion with Author Elijah Anderson at Bus Boys and Poets  
(Greater Washington DC Metro Area)

Derek Hyra, associate professor, Urban Affairs and Planning, will moderate a discussion with noted author and Yale sociologist Elijah Anderson, about his newest book, The Cosmopolitan Canopy: Race and Civility In Everyday Life, which offers a significant reinterpretation of America's racial dynamics. Busboys and Poets founder Andy Shallal will introduce Anderson.

Anderson holds the William K. Lanman, Jr. Professorship in Sociology at Yale University, where he teaches and directs the Urban Ethnography Project. In addition to The Cosmopolitan Canopy, he has authored the award-winning books, Code of the Street and Streetwise.

This event is cosponsored by Virginia Tech's School for Public and International Affairs and its Urban Planning Program, George Washington University's Department of Sociology and Teaching for Change.
