Rededication for Grave Marker of Former President Lunsford L. Lomax

There will be a rededication service for the grave marker of Lunsford Lindsey Lomax, fourth president of Virginia Tech, serving from 1886 - 1891.
Col. Rock Roszak '71, Alumni Director for the Corps of Cadets, will provide a commentary on Lomax's time and
contribution to the university.
The SCV, Black Horse Camp 780 is sponsoring the rededication ceremony.
Lunsford Lindsay Lomax
Fourth president, 1886 - 91.
Born November 4, 1835, in Newport, RI, Lunsford Lindsey Lomax received his B.S. from U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY in 1856. He was a fellow officer with J. E. B. Stuart in the west and became a Confederate major general. After the Civil War, Lomax farmed near Warrenton until his appointment as VAMC president at age 50. After leaving office, he worked in Washington, D.C. on compilation of official records of both Confederate and Union armies. Lomax was a member of Gettysburg Battlefield Commission. He died May 28, 1913, in Washington, D.C. at age 77.
