  LISA Statistics Short Course: Combining the Power of R and Excel: RExcel
(Academic)

LISA (Laboratory for Interdisciplinary Statistical Analysis) is providing a series of evening short courses to help graduate students use statistics in their research. The focus of these two-hour courses is on teaching practical statistical techniques for analyzing or collecting data. See www.lisa.stat.vt.edu/?q=short_courses for instructions on how to REGISTER and to learn more.

Remaining Spring 2012 Schedule:
February 21 & February 23: Combining the Power of R and Excel: RExcel;*
February 28: Regression Analysis using JMP;
March 13: Bayesian Methods for Regression in R;*
*These courses will be held in 3060 Torgersen, all other courses will be held in GLC Room F.

Tuesday & Thursday, February 21 & 23;
Instructor: Matt Lanham;
Title: Combining the Power of R and Excel: RExcel;
Course Information:
Excel is the most prevalent software used for data storage and analysis. There are a lot of built in statistical functions in Excel along with other more savy features from a free add-in called 'Analysis ToolPak'. On the other hand, R is a free and open source program, and one of the most powerful and the fastest-growing statistics packages. Combing the power of Excel and R together into a seamless interface will provide you all the tools and efficiency you need to analyze your data for your research or business endeavors.

There are two sessions for this course (Feb 21st and 23rd). They will both cover the exact same thing, meaning the second course does not build off of the first.
