"Who Killed Walter Benjamin?" Film and Discussion
(Special Event)

The celebrated German-Jewish thinker Walter Benjamin fled Nazi-occupied France in 1940 and died at the Spanish border after being denied entry. The next day his companions were allowed to cross into Spain. Did Benjamin commit suicide, or was he murdered? To answer this question, this film takes us to the tiny coastal town of Port Bou and the world of one of the twentieth century's most fascinating thinkers. In the guise of a simple "whodunnit," the film is a charming and haunting depiction of the legacy of Benjamin's work around the world and in one Spanish village as it deals with its relationship to fascism and anti-Semitism.
