New Metropolis Lecture Series

Richard Martinez, associate professor in the Department of Chicano Studies and affiliate faculty in the Master's of Urban and Regional Planning program at the University of Minnesota, will present Immigration and American Cities: Opportunities and Challenges. He will review recent global and U.S. demographic trends, explain migration from a sociological perspective, and discuss implications for cities, emphasizing the controversy surrounding undocumented immigration and possible solutions.
Martinez' current research areas are immigration policy, planning, and social movements. He is currently finishing a book on immigration titled Threat Theory USA.
