"Modeling Selection"
Abstract: I argue that good models of natural selection must either be,or be inferred from, population specific models of the causal structure governing survival and reproductive success for individuals. Available data (sometimes) permits inferences to such structures, but is inadequate to reliably specify the causal structure over models whose state-variables are measured on populations. Standard philosophical interpretations of evolutionary theory, both so called 'statistical' and 'dynamic' interpretations, are consequently untenable.
